Homemade Natural Sunscreen for Body Care

A good sunscreen should protect the skin against UVA and UVB rays from the sun and at the same time should help the skin maintain its natural oils and moisture. The natural sunscreen or sun cream can
soothe, nourish and protect the skin from sun’s rays. On the other hand, many chemical sunscreens clog the pores.

The natural and organic ingredients that may be used in a natural sunscreen recipe are sesame oil, coconut oil, olive oil, avocado oil, Emu oil, Aloe vera or shea butter, etc. as they actually can absorb much of the sun’s rays. But the information on the extent of UVA and UVB absorption ability of these ingredients is scanty. It is reported that sesame oil can reduce about 30%, coconut and olive oils about 20% and Aloe Vera about 20% of the sun’s rays.

Put on protective gloves.Grate or chop 1 tbsp. beeswax, and melt it with 3 tbsp. shea butter over low heat, whisking constantly until the beeswax and shea butter are completely melted.Continue to whisk, as you slowly add 6 tbsp. avocado or almond oils, 1 tsp. soy lecithin, 1 tbsp. aloe vera and 2 tbsp. zinc oxide. Whisk until the mixture is thoroughly combined. Use a blender, food processor or mixer, if you like.Remove mixture from the heat, and stir in 10 vitamin E drops.Apply a thin layer to your skin before going out into the sun. Reapply regularly.

1. Never sunbathe in direct sunshine
2. Never sunbathe at midday : the sun’s rays are not as strong before 10.30 am and after 3pm
3. Wear a sun-hat to protect your head
4. Wear sunglasses to protect your eyes
5. Do not use any of the citrus oils for scenting your homemade sunscreen. They increase your risk of sunburn.
